I never actually planned on creating an account here, but given the situation with Yahoo I'm becoming one of what's likely to be many and starting a DW just in case our friends up at Yahoo HQ choose sometime soon to finally put tumblogs out of their collective misery. I'll be making a point to move some old original posts of mine to this host. This out of the way:

Hello! I'm Mar, Laughs, and now Koshei, otherwise known as laughingmad on tumblr. If you're reading this, you probably know me from there.

Let's hope things work out this time.

Autodesk: Telescope

Thanks to a high school robotics team membership (224, for the curious FIRSTer) I was introduced to 3D drawing/rendering, which I quickly started doing for fun. The sort of output I produced is hardly impressive, but it meant a lot to me so I am going to do my best to preserve what I can.

This is the first drawing I posted to my tumblr on the 23rd of December 2013.

Since Autodesk Inventor is designed for engineers, it runs on the user making separate parts of an object to then be assembled and constrained into one articulated whole. Above you can see the assembly, followed by two "working drawings" that show measurements and details for the object.

The original caption my 2013 self had for this was:

"I’ve decided that I’m going to share some of my designs here. First up is a doodle of a desk toy “telescope” I’ve been working on for the past week (if it were more than a doodle I’d have put effort into making sure the accursed thing would actually balance if I made it).

The latter two images are “working drawings”, images meant to convey measurements and appearances of the modeled product to manufacturers. They are normally IDW files where the designer can edit text and decide which measurements to display, but I had to downgrade them to PNG files so tumblr would let me upload them!
The program I used is Autodesk Inventor Professional. If you are a student, you can get a free three-year license for this program."
